PERSONAL STATEMENT
Communication, technology, and law are the three fields that define my academic study and my professional accomplishments. The study of communication has provided me the tools to use theories, methods and processes to effectively interpret the technological revolution that has altered all facets of human life. New laws will be written and old laws need to be interpreted to safeguard that justice is provided for everyone. Autonomous cars, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality are just a few of the game-changing innovations that will need legal professionals to ensure compliance with changing regulatory requirements.
I was born in the City of Detroit and I began reading and writing at the tender young age of three. I was fortunate to receive education in the very best elementary, middle, and high schools that the Detroit Public School System offered. I attended Bates Academy for the Gifted and Talented and Cass Tech High School. Early on I developed a passion for public speaking, writing, and analyzing the world around me. This set of skills at a young age caused me to understand the large disparities that exist in the world. I was determined to figure out how I could play a role in helping people.
I have worked for the last twenty-five years using my skills, talents, and abilities as a representative for a labor union in the fields of human relations, labor, and politics. As a future lawyer, I hope to use my experiences negotiating, explaining tentative agreements, handling arbitrations, and working through various levels of government. As a long-term officer and member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on the city, state, and national level I am determined to work to eliminate the discriminatory practices of the past.
